Moneyback (NWCC) issued warnings regarding severe rainfalls predicted in sixteen provinces, whilst water levels across the Chao Phraya River are seen to lower as a end result of El Nino climate conditions.
Surasri Kidtimonton, the deputy of the NWCC and the Secretary-General of the Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR), warned of the heavy showers anticipated to have an effect on varied regions, with the north, northeast, east and western areas of the south being particularly impacted through to the tip of the week.
The most important warnings have been flagged for sixteen provinces: Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Tak, Nan, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Sakhon Nakhon, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phangnga, Phuket, Satun and Trang.
“The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation recently mentioned that landslides have been reported in many areas of Phangnga, together with the Muang Phangnga-Kapong road in Tambon Tung Kha Ngok.”
Measures have been coordinated with native administrations to help clear the highway surfaces.
The NWCC official noted that though the rainfall within the Chao Phraya River basin continues to be low because of the El Nino phenomenon, the Mekong River experiences the inverse, with greater water ranges because of continuous precipitation.
Surasri indicated low water reserves at the 4 major dams in the Chao Phraya basin, particularly Bhumibol in Tak, Sirikit in Uttaradit, Kwai Noi Bamrung Daen in Phitsanulok and Pasak Jolasid in Lop Buri. Collectively, these dams comprise a low total of 2.ninety seven billion cubic metres of water, reported Bangkok Post.
Recent knowledge from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand displayed the water ranges at Bhumibol and Sirikit dams at only forty two.6% and forty five.3% respectively.
To manage the situation, the NWCC suggested local rice farmers to restrict their cultivation to 1 rice crop this 12 months, with Surasri warning of potential water insufficiencies for a second farming crop..
