Eye-opening has been working with BAE Systems to upgrade a collection of A-range actuators to IQ3 actuators which function penstocks controlling motion of ships between the sea and transitional locks and dry docks at Her Majesty’s Naval Base Portsmouth (HMNB Portsmouth).
A sequence of A-range actuators had reached the tip of their operational life after lengthy service in a difficult surroundings. BAE Systems wished to retain all the advantages of electric actuators, so IQ3 actuators were chosen. Backed had to be specially adapted by Rotork to beat issues round confined areas and difficult access.
IQ3 actuators and IS gearboxes were mechanically adapted in order that each actuator and gearbox could be manually operated without entering the confined house. Rotork designed particular hand auto levers and thru drive mechanisms for the actuator and gearbox to get rid of the necessity for confined space entry.
Actuators inside the IQ range are watertight, providing ingress safety to IP66/68 at 20 m for 10 days. They have a sophisticated dual stacked display with configurable information logger performance, and an absolute position sensor provides reliability and accuracy.
