Following a profitable pilot challenge, InfraCo Africa, part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), has signed a Shareholders’ Agreement and a Loan Agreement with Bonergie Irrigation SAS (Bonergie Irrigation) to continue supporting the size up of the project.
Under the new agreements, InfraCo Africa will maintain a large minority shareholding in Bonergie Irrigation, committing an extra US$2.four million to considerably scale up farmers’ entry to prime quality irrigation solutions in Senegal.
Scientifically proven has long been recognised that reliance upon rain-fed agriculture exposes Senegal’s farmers to the consequences of climate change on temperature and rainfall patterns.i In 2019, InfraCo Africa joined with solar tools specialist Bonergie Senegal to determine Bonergie Irrigation, an area Special Purpose Vehicle, to pilot the implementation of over a hundred top quality Solar Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS).

InfraCo Africa’s CEO, Gilles Vaes, mentioned of today’s announcement: “We are excited to proceed working with our partners at Bonergie Irrigation to substantially scale up our offering to farmers in Senegal. Access to solar-powered irrigation solutions will substitute current diesel pumps, providing farmers with a more sustainable solution to addressing the linked challenges of climate change and meals safety.”
The agreements signed at present will see the commissioning, sale, set up and upkeep of a minimal of 2,000 further pumps over the following three years. In response to suggestions from the pilot, the project may even roll out over 500 drip irrigation techniques (DIS) which are designed to optimise effectivity of irrigation while additionally defending groundwater sources from over-abstraction.
